Creepy, horny aliens! Acrobatic selkies! Romantic animated anatomical models! Sexy grandmas! Mantis shrimp! And a teen romance that trumps everything else! Dandadan blew up the world of anime in 2024, becoming one of the most unique series of the year as it blended sci-fi, horror, and romantic comedy into a concoction uniquely Dandadan. If not for the overwhelming popularity of Korea's Solo Leveling, Dandadan may have been a huge winner at the 2025 Anime Awards, and it should have been.
Following the awkward and exciting adventures of high schoolers Momo and Okarun, a spirit medium and an alien enthusiast, respectively, Dandadan is based on the 2021 Shōnen Jump manga and can be streamed domestically on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Momo and Okarun are joined by various allies, including Momo's grandmother Seiko, Momo's goofy childhood friend Jiji, and a powerful spirit trapped inside of a maneki-neko doll named Turbo Granny. While fighting demons, aliens, and yokai, Momo and Okarun become closer and closer and begin to develop feelings for each other... even while they are searching for Okarun's genitals, which were stolen and hidden by Turbo Granny. This isn't your usual boy-meets-girl story.
Season 2 is coming soon! Let's recap where and when you can watch Dandadan Season 2, and get as much information about the season as we can.
Dandadan Season 2 release date
Dandadan Season 2 will premiere on July 3, 2025. Just like Season 1, Season 2 will stream on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu. New episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays; exact timing is to be determined, but last season, episodes began streaming at 11 a.m. EST/8 a.m. PST.
Dandadan: Evil Eye movie release date
If you can't wait for Season 2 to begin streaming, you can watch the first three episodes AT THE MOVIES! Dandadan: Evil Eye combines the first three episodes of the season into one feature film-length viewing experience — it's not an actual movie — and it's playing in theaters across the country now (it was released on June 6 in the United States). It's getting good reviews!
What will Dandadan Season 2 be about?
The Season 1 finale, "Let's Go to the Cursed House," ended with Momo, Okarun, and Jiji going to Jiji's... cursed house. Gotta love the simplicity of anime episode titles. There, Momo visited some hot springs with some weirdo perverts who attacked her, and Okarun and Jiji busted open a wall in Jiji's house, revealing a hidden room with mysterious talismans. And that was it. That was a devious cliffhanger to end the season on, and Season 2 will pick up from there.
Season 2 will cover at least the "Cursed House" and "Evil Eye" arcs from the mangas. "Cursed House" is a haunted house story, and "Evil Eye" will follow a specific curse; both stories focus largely on Jiji. I don't want to give away any spoilers here, but if you must know what happens, you can read summaries of the manga over on Fandom's Dandadan wiki.
Dandadan Season 2 trailers
The first trailer was released in late April 2025 and gives us a look at an evil spirit who possesses Jiji. The trailer is just a snippet of the season, but you can see that the series' madness remains intact.
The second trailer hit the web in late May 2025 (the English trailer, below, followed a few weeks later) and gives fans a more complete look at the season, introducing a giant serpent and revisiting some old friends, including our favorite sprinting anatomical model, Taro.
Dandadan opening credits
Dandadan's Season 1 opening credit sequence kicks butt. It won the Anime Award for Best Anime Opening Sequence thanks to its stylish animation and the song "Otonoke," an absolute banger from Japanese pop hip-hop group Creepy Nuts. The credits get better every time you see them.
Sadly, Season 2 will have a new opening credit sequence, with a song performed by Japanese group AiNA THE END. Hopefully, the more we see it, the more we will come to love it, just as we did with Season 1's intro.
Dandadan voice cast and characters

Dandadan
The Japanese and English voice cast is superb, and will roll over from Season 1. Shion Wakayama, Natsuki Hanae, and AJ Beckles were all nominated for Anime Awards in Season 1, though none of them won. Here are the characters who will be in Season 2 and who will voice them:
- "Momo" [Shion Wakayama (JP) / Abby Trott (EN)] — a confident high school girl, who is also a spirit medium with psychic powers and Okarun's crush
- "Okarun" [Natsuki Hanae (JP) / AJ Beckles (EN)] — a nerdy alien buff who possesses the ability to turn into a Turbo Granny and happens to have the same real name (Ken Takakura) as Momo's celebrity crush
- "Seiko" [Nana Mizuki (JP) / Kari Wahlgren (EN)] — Momo's grandmother and a well-known medium
- "Aira" [Ayane Sakura (JP) / Lisa Reimold (EN)] — a cunning and popular girl in school who develops a god complex after she gains supernatural powers that let her see ghosts
- "Jiji" [Kaito Ishikawa (JP) / Aleks Le (EN)] — Momo's childhood friend who seems cool at first but is a huge dork
- "Turbo Granny" [Mayumi Tanaka (JP) / Barbara Goodson (EN)] — a yokai who is banished to live inside a maneki-neko doll and becomes part of the team
- "Taro" [Tomokazu Sugita (JP)] — an animated male anatomical model who will do anything for his love, Hana
- "Hana" [Fumi Hirano (JP)] — an animated female anatomical model, and Taro's girlfriend
Is Dandadan OK for kids to watch?
There's a lot going on that would make you think that Dandadan is appropriate for kids — a cute and cranky talking cat doll, high schoolers solving mysteries — but no. There are some sexual and adult themes — not that overt, but mature enough that pre-teens should avoid. Plus, it's WEIRD. If you still think your kiddo can handle it, watch the first episode by yourself. It's probably the episode with the most adult themes, particularly when Momo is captured by aliens and stripped to her underwear while strapped to a table.
